Where does the Mac App Store download the files to under Lion? I need the DMG file in order to repair something in my system, but how can I access that file?
You have to login before using any link on this page.
See all Xcode files directly at: developer.apple.com/download/all/?q=xcode
In the list below, the newest are on top.
For each minor version (12.0, 13.2 etc) only the latest or last revision is in the list.
To actually install Xcode, download a file below, unzip, and simply move to the Applications folder.
Note that it is normal on modern MacOS to have more than one version of Xcode if needed. Simply name them differently.
Note. The xip -x <xip>
tip is no longer faster. This legacy tip will be removed with the next version.
Xcode 16
Note. From about 16.2. If using a beta: Uploads are often blocked other than from the latest beta.
For example, from about Noon EST on Dec 10 2024,
it was impossible to use Xcode 16.2 beta 3 to upload:
One would have to change to the next build (16.2 RC at the time) to upload.
Note. Since about 16.2b3 the syntax of Apple's download URL has changed.
From MacOS 15 (Sequoia), it is not possible to use Xcode prior to Xcode 16.
Since 16, it is sometimes necessary to run sudo xcodebuild -runFirstLaunch
in Terminal
Xcode 15
Since 15, Xcode downloads runtimes and simulators on first launch. You no longer need to manually click to do so:
Xcode 14
Xcode 13
Xcode 12
Xcode 11
Xcode 10 (unsupported for iTunes Connect)
Xcode 9
