Apple Notarization Status. What does it mean?

I submitted my macOS app for notarization. Here's what I see:

Successfully received submission info createdDate: 2024-08-21T11:25:46.063Z id: 9e787992-5737-4ca8-b8b5-23d267f6476c name: MacOSapp.zip status: Accepted

What does it mean? Are there more stages in this process?

The reason I am asking is because trying to staple a ticket gives me 'error 65' which means there is no ticket.

Solution

  • Yes there are many steps after successful submission. The subsequent step after submission is notarization, where Apple’s servers analyze your app for any malicious content or code signing issues. This can take some time (hours to days and even weeks in some rare cases) depending on Apple's load at the moment. Once the notarization process is complete, Apple will either approve your app (generating a notarization ticket) or reject it if any issues are found. After the ticket is available, you can then staple it to your app. The stapler error 65 you're encountering means that the notarization ticket is not yet available, likely because the notarization process hasn't finished.
