Changing properties in original component without losing text on changed instances

after changing the typography on a original component button, I've found that all the texts I've changed on the instances were reverted back to the original component text. Now I'm manually changing the texts in over 100 instances that I have of that component.

Is there a way to avoid this in Figma? I've searched for it but couldn't find it.

Thanks!

Solution

  • When you change the original component in Figma, all instances of that component will automatically update to reflect the changes. To avoid this, the instances need to be "detached" beforehand. Right click on the instance of the component you want to detach and select "Detach Instance" from the context menu. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Alt + Shift + D.

Unfortunately, there is no way to change the original component and update all child instances at once without affecting their individual customizations. Each instance needs to be detached individually to preserve its unique changes.
