The Apache Tomcat Versions page lists the specifications implemented by Tomcat.
These are all part of Jakarta EE I expect. Yet I cannot find any JDSOL on the Jakarta specs page.
Unfortunately that Apache Tomcat page neglects to include a legend explaining their abbreviations. So I cannot identify what JDSOL Spec means.
I would guess that JDSOL Spec refers to the Jakarta EE specification, Jakarta Debugging Support for Other Languages.
My guess is reinforced by the fact that only two versions of that spec have been released: 1.0 & 2.0. Those same version numbers are shown on the Apache Tomcat Versions page. These were released for Jakarta EE 8 & Jakarta EE 9+ respectively.
By the way, here is that missing legend explaining those abbreviations.
Apache Tomcat page | Jakarta EE spec |
---|---|
Servlet Spec | Jakarta Servlet |
Pages Spec | Jakarta Pages |
JDSOL Spec | Jakarta Debugging Support for Other Languages |
EL Spec | Jakarta Expression Language |
WebSocket Spec | Jakarta WebSocket |
Authentication Spec (JASPIC) | Jakarta Authentication |
Annotation Spec | Jakarta Annotations |
We can see why the Jakarta EE team wisely decided to avoid the abbreviations which became such a maddening mess in the days of Java EE.
