dnssquarespace

HOW? www.example.com => example.com

www.example.com: Your connection is not private Attackers might be trying to steal your information

DNS: I have added custom record

www | CNAME | N/A | 1 hr | ext-cust.squarespace.com

Does anyone know if this is sufficient - and if it's just a waiting game now (been waiting about 40hrs now)? A 48hr feedback loop is brutal

other info:

example.com is fine (as is https://example.com, which redirects(?) to it) www.whatsmydns.net/ shows www.example.com is propagating (?) (at a different ip address/es than my A-type record lists - don't know if that's meaningful), but apparently that's not enough to resolve the issue

Solution

  • The message Your connection is not private indicates the server did not provide the certificate that it's www.example.com, probably because your actual host is not configured with SSL certificate for www.example.com. You need to look into documentation for your host (I assume it's squarespace) for how to configure custom domain name with a SSL certificate, if they support it. On this page in Step 7 they explain that it may take up to 48 hours for the connection to start working properly. While you wait you can review the connection's progress, and domain settings, including the SSL certificate status, in the Domain overview panel.

    You can check the certificate returned by the server when you navigate in your browser to www.example.com and then right click on the icon on the left side of the address bar, and checking the pop-up menu. In Chrome the menu is called Certificate details
